Faculty Career Path: Clinician Teacher

Dr. Christopher Barnes is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Palliative Care at the University of Ottawa. He joined the Division in September 2011 with the career track of Clinician-Teacher. He is Program Director of the Palliative Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Barnes received his undergraduate degree in Health Sciences from McMaster University in 2004. He went on to complete medical training at Queen’s University in 2008. Residencies in Family Medicine and a Fellowship in Palliative Care were completed at the University of Ottawa in 2011.

Dr. Barnes’ clinical and academic interests involve delirium and goals of care discussions. He is also active in medical education, having taken a leadership role in undergraduate curriculum reform at Queen’s School of Medicine, and engaged in didactic and small-group teaching during his Palliative Care Residency. He coordinated palliative care education at The Ottawa Hospital prior to becoming Program Director.
